Kicking-off HED Craftsbury Circuit Project: Phase One (Right of Way Clearance)

by | Sep 15, 2025 | News

As a densely forested state and region of Vermont, it’s no surprise that year-over-year, trees are the leading cause of outages for Hardwick Electric Department.  Preliminary data shows that year-to-date HED has experienced 56 tree-caused outages, impacting 3,759 customers.

With crews beginning September 22nd HED is thrilled to announce kicking off Phase One (ROW Clearance) of the Craftsbury Circuit Project. This initial phase of the project is scheduled to take 8-10 weeks, and is a necessary first step for future improvements while also establishing a clear right-of-way in advance of winter snow and ice loading across poles and wires.

This multi-phase system improvement project will ultimately provide system-wide reliability and redundancy for all customers, particularly those served up and along the VT-15/VT-14 junction, beyond Eligo Lake, through Craftsbury Village, with customers across several communities including Hardwick, Greensboro and Craftsbury.

For customers directly impacted by the ROW clearance, HED staff and its contractor crews will be posting door hangers and customer notices to prepare for crews in your area as well as posting public notices around our communities and through our social media accounts.

We look forward to sharing and celebrating progress as this project gets underway.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office at 1-802-472-5201 or customerservice@hardwickelectric.com.

Last Friday, March 27th, our office was closed for half of the day so our staff could participate in a training regarding the AMI metering we are gearing up to adopt into our system later on this year. AMI is a system that allows utilities and customers to exchange energy and usage data in real time. Manual meters that have to be read physically will be replaced with AMI meters where data is transmitted back and forth between platforms. What does this mean for you as an HED customer? - Real time usage data - Ability to know exactly when your power is out and restored - No one having to come out to your property monthly and/or seasonally to read meters Stay tuned for more information as HED prepares to kick off AMI! ...
