When the power goes out, Hardwick Electric Department is committed to restoring service as quickly and safely as possible. Our outage notification system helps keep you informed.
Before You Call
Before reporting an outage:
- Check your breakers or fuses.
- See if neighboring homes have power.
- Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately.
- If you see a downed line, assume it is energized and keep everyone away.

We remain committed to updating the VT Outage system as quickly as possible.
During an Outage
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
- Use flashlights instead of candles whenever possible.
- Unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from power surges.
- If you use a generator, operate it outdoors and away from windows and doors.
Emergency Situations
Call 911 immediately if you observe:
- Downed power lines
- Electrical fires
- Smoke coming from electrical equipment
- Life-threatening emergencies
Never approach or touch a downed power line.
